Acolytes
Are you tall enough to safely light the candles on the altar? Then you have the skill needed to be an acolyte. The acolyte schedule is created every 6 months.

Adult Choir

10:45 a.m. service and, on occasion, at the 8:15 a.m. service. The choir sings anthems and also provides soloists and ensembles. Rehearsals are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.

 

 

Adult Library
Expand your horizons and check out a book from our library located in the Gathering Room. Coming soon: an enlarged selection! So stop by and look for new arrivals.

sunday schoolAdult Sunday School
The Contemporary Issues Class, which meets in the Church Office,discusses topics ranging from education to stem cell research. The Searchers meet in the Parlor for a study that shows that the Bible is a living book. Both meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. NOOMA meets at 10:45 in the Youth Room and is an adult open discussion group.

asp service projectAppalachia Service Project
During a one-week trip each summer, the youth and their adult leaders repair homes in the Appalachian Mountain Region, making the homes warmer, safer, and drier. They learn about life, friendship, power tools, and sharing God’s love by doing God’s work.

Bell Choir rings out its praises in worship several times a year. You don’t have to read music to play. Rehearsals are at 6 p.m., Thursdays.


Camp Grandview
Join us for a week-long, all-day adventure open to Grandview children and the entire community. Cooks, craft persons, and anyone who loves kids are needed for a week overflowing with love and activity.

 

Caring Meals
A group of individuals that meet in the church kitchen each season and cook yummy meals that can be frozen and stored in the church freezer so they are available when a member of the church family is in need.

Celebration Service

Grandview’s praise band leads Celebration Worship on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Zerr Hall. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 7:00 a.m.

 

 

 

 

Children’s Library

Kids in preschool to middle school can find award-winning books in the Children’s Library, located in the Media Room, downstairs in the children’s education wing. Check-out is easy, and due dates are flexible.

Children (preschool through 5th grade) meet downstairs for Sunday School from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., or Growing in Gods Love (GIGGLE)is dismissed from 10:45 a.m. worship, from September to May, to learn about the Christian faith through Bible stories, hands-on lessons,and relationships with each other and caring teachers. Special children’s worship services take place throughout the year.

 

Children’s Music
Sunday School children sing every week as part of the curriculum.
They sing for the congregation on Christmas Eve, Easter, and various Sundays throughout the year. Meet in the fireplace room at 10:15 a.m.


College Connection
Helps Grandview College students stay rooted in their church home through letters and e-mails. Students are featured monthly in The Messenger, and weekly in the church bulletin. We also indulge our students by mailing home-baked treats for Valentine’s Day.


Church Building & Grounds Care


Communications
Grandview communicates in many ways. There are e-mail updates and alerts as well as a web site (www.grandviewumc.org) and a newsletter, The Messenger. News items and photos are always welcome for all three. Messenger deadline: the 15th of every month.


Communion Preparation
The first Sunday of the month is Communion Sunday, and this group makes sure that the elements (bread and juice) and any other necessary supplies are ready.


Finance Team
Oversees the church’s finances. Plans annual giving campaign and special campaigns, develops a budget, manages assets, and helps educate the congregation about stewardship. Meets Jubilee Night (second Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.).

 

Flower Guild
This group of flower lovers provides arrangements for the altar by using some blooms from their own gardens. They also enhance worship with special decorations on Harvest Home Sunday and at Christmas and Easter times.

Food and Clothing Bank
Grandview members donate nonperishable food items as well as new and used clothing by placing them in the shopping cart and clothing chest at the back of the sanctuary. The items are taken to the Food and Clothing Bank of the Lancaster County Council of Churches, which distributes them to families in need.

 

 

Food Preparation
You could call this group, “Cooks for Jesus.” This group prepares and serves food in the Grandview kitchen for any occasion, from funeral luncheons to ministry team Christmas dinners. Bring your oven mitts and show the world God’s hospitality.


Grand Work Out
Get fit with some friends. A co-ed hour of exercise set to both popular and Christian music, ending with an inspirational message. Classes are Monday nights from 6 to 7 p.m.


grenadaGrenada Team
This group works to rebuild schools and churches in Grenada. Persons interested in raising funds, gathering supplies, and/or traveling to Grenada are encouraged to participate.


Habitat for Humanity
Grandview participates in the local chapter of this international organization by helping to build homes in partnership with the working poor. Those with lots of carpentry skills or only a few can participate.

Hospitality Team
On Sunday mornings be the smile that greets people when they arrive for worship. Help everybody find what they are looking for and field questions with a gracious heart.


Lenten Luncheons
You dream up the theme for the Lenten Luncheon series and find three speakers to tell the story.


Meals for Moms
Provides meals for new mothers and their families after the birth of a new child. You don’t need to be a gourmet cook to participate.

Memorial Garden
The Warren L. Hackman Memorial Garden provides a final resting place for loved ones and a place for solace, meditation, healing, and gathering in God’s love. Communion is offered every year during a special service in the garden.

 

 

 

Men’s Group
Are you looking for fellowship and service opportunities? Grandview’s men’s group is for you. Meets third Sunday of the month at 8p.m.


middle school youthMiddle School Youth
Fun, fellowship, service, and spiritual growth are what this group is all about. All youth in grades 6, 7, and 8 (and don’t be afraid to bring a friend) are welcome at regular meetings and special events. On the second and fourth Sundays, the youth attend Sunday School at 9:30a.m., worship at 10:45 a.m., have lunch together, and then fellowship until 2:00 p.m. Special events also occur throughout the year, including a camp out, a retreat, and serving at Water Street.

 

Missions, Faith & Action
This group educates the congregation about missions at the local, regional, and global levels. They sponsor Volunteers in Mission/ Disaster Relief trips and many other valuable ministries that “give feet to our faith.”


Money Counters
Have a head for numbers? Are you able to receive, count, and deposit regular offering envelopes and special collections? Then come out on any Monday, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., in the Parlor to join the team.

 

Nursery Care
The Grandview nursery provides a secure and caring environment for infants and toddlers. Open during 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. worship every Sunday. Also available for many church events.

 

Office Support
For those who feel called to support the pastoral/program staff. Help prepare mailings, answer phones, and make copies and other light office work on a regular or occasional basis. Come expecting a joyful time.

 

Parish Nurses
This team of caring professionals provides blood pressure screenings, information, education, and support for members of Grandview on health-related topics.

 

Prayer Chain
Join the prayer chain and help put the power of prayer to work for those in need within our Grandview family. Contact the above people if you have a prayer joy or concern or if you wish to be a link in the chain.

A hands on opportunity to make the dream of a new life in America a reality for a family. This is a large team effort that works on housing, healthcare, employment, and education.


Road Cleanup (Adopt-A-Highway)
Twice a year, on the first Saturdays of April and November, Grandview cleans up Grofftown Road. It’s a simple way to contribute to the beauty of our community and our world.


Services on CD
Volunteers deliver bulletins and a CD of Grandview’s Sunday services to homebound members. CDs are also available to the congregation. Check in the basket in the Gathering Room closet.

It’s all about relationships! Come out and join the group for service projects, conversation, and lots of laughter and bonding. All Grandview high school students (and any friends who would like to tag along) are invited.

 

SHAPE
Spiritual Gifts, Heart’s Desire, Ability, Personality, and Experience. It’s a quiz (but there are no wrong answers) that can help you determine your God-given Calling.

 

Small Groups
Small groups strive to create authentic, caring community by supporting and praying for each other. Small groups provide intimate, confidential, and supportive.

 

Technician Team
This group provides technical support (sound, lights, and PowerPoint) for our Celebration Service. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights at 7p.m. and Sunday mornings at 7:30.

 

Trustees
Trustees maintain and upgrade Grandview’s facilities to provide a sturdy, safe, and welcoming home for our ministries. Meet Jubilee night (second Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.).

 

United Methodist Women
UMW is dedicated to working on behalf of women, children, and youth in the U.S. and abroad. To get involved, attend the quarterly programs and/or join a circle. Experience a loving community ready to support you and help you develop your relationship with God.

 

United Methodist Women Circles:

Ushers/Greeters
Participate in Grandview’s hospitality on a Sunday morning. The schedule is drawn up twice a year. The only requirement is a smile and a helping hand.

 

Visitation
Lay visitors are assigned homebound members to call on once a month. Hospital visitors call on the hospital daily. A desire to share Christian love through prayer and presence is all that is required.

 

Walk to Emmaus
A retreat that inspires, challenges, and equips church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and jobs.

 

Water Street Rescue Mission
Serve a meal one Sunday a month with other Grandview members. Meet at the Mission, 210 South Prince St., at 5 p.m. on the 4th Sunday.

 

womens retreatWomen’s Retreat
A yearly getaway for the women of Grandview so they can refresh, relax, and rejoice. Usually held in late winter.
