Sunday School Rally Day PDF Print E-mail
Monday, August 30 2010 08:01
We’re kicking off autumn with a celebration of Christian Education—children, youth, and adult—at 9:30 on Sunday, September 12, followed by a combined worship service at 10:45, featuring our choir plus musicians from the 9:30 service. This Jumpin’ Jehosphat Jamboree will feature lots of letter-J-themed fun: Jell-o jigglers, jazz, jumping, jam, jacks, jonathan apples, and more.  If the weather is good, we’ll be on the side lawn.  If not, we’ll be in Zerr Hall.  Everyone is invited to be part of the fun. There will be a regular 8:15 service. We hope our 8:15-ers will stay afterward for the celebration so that we get to enjoy the fellowship of our whole church body.

Fall Youth Program PDF Print E-mail
Monday, August 30 2010 08:03
The Fall program will start the 19th of September.  On the 12th we are having a rally day (at 9:30am) at church, which kicks off the fall education program.  So I encourage parents to stop by the Youth station to ask questions and to take care of a few odds and ends.  This is important for all parents to do, but is especially important for parents whose students are going to be new to either the Jr. High program or the Sr. High Program.  Remember, starting the 19th those who just started 6th grade will then be a part of the Jr. High and those starting 9th grade will then be a part of the Sr. High.

Adult Appalachia Service Project PDF Print E-mail
Monday, August 30 2010 09:37
This year will be the 6th year for the Adult Appalachia Service Project. The previous trips have been an incredible experience, renewing, enriching and challenging our lives. We've worked hard and laughed hardily and we have connected with the hospitable, warm, and appreciative families of the Appalachian Mountains.

We leave on October 2, staying overnight in a hotel to break up a rather long trip, and arrive on October 3 to begin work the next day. We will spend one week at Jonesville, VA doing anything from painting, and siding to roofing (no high roof work!), flooring, joists and bathrooms. It's a week of learning for all of us. We will return home in one day on Saturday, October 9.

We welcome newcomers who have an interest in serving. Please call or email Dena Ament, to find out if it's something that you would like to do.

There will be oils, watercolors, pottery, greeting cards, jewelry, photography, bronze sculpture and more.  Along with the art, there will be musicians playing background music and snacks to make an all-around pleasant experience for you.

Here is a recap of Camp Grandview 2010:

Monday:

Our theme today is "Building Justly: Everyone Deserves a Home."  We built things out of clay and sticks.  We even built our own snack out of marshmallows, gum drops and pretzel sticks, and we built our own sandwiches for lunch.  We talked about what we love about our own homes and about what we would miss if we didn't have a home. We started working on a really cool machine.  We sang silly songs and made music with rain sticks and other instruments.
Best of all, we helped to build a real shed.  The shed will be auctioned off on Thursday at 6 p.m. to benefit Habitat for Humanity (free delivery!).  A speaker from Habitat came today and shared about helping all families in Lancaster County to have a home.
We are memorizing this Bible verse: "Open your hand to the poor and needy of your land."--Deuternomy 15:11.

Saving Up PDF Print E-mail
Monday, June 14 2010 08:13
Did you know that we are already saving up for our building renovations?  An account has begun that includes memorial contributions, grocery card profits, and other special gifts.  We encourage you to stay in the habit of buying grocery gift cards over the summer.  This is a painless way to give: you get the same amount of groceries you’d get if you were paying cash, but Grandview gets 5 to 10 percent when you use a gift card.  Cards are sold in the Gathering Room between services each Sunday.

And Coming Up...

Church Renovations
We are gearing up to launch our Capital Campaign in October, with the hope of beginning work on the church next spring.  Designs have been revised to meet the dollar figure identified in our Feasibility Study.  A modest, beautiful, functional building that serves our needs as a congregation and helps us better serve the community will be the exciting result.

Rally Day
September 12—We kick off the Sunday school year with the Jumpin’ Jehosophat Jamboree!  Special events for children, youth, and parents at 9:30 a.m. followed by a joyful worship service at 10:45.  (We’ll also worship at 8:15.)

Music Celebration
We are planning some special events that will combine the talents of all our church musicians—those who are great at reading music and those who play incredibly by ear—including a music-driven Advent celebration on Dec. 5.
